The Shaw Clan

My siblings, My Dad, & My Kids
We have every personality type dispersed among my five siblings and myself--everything from the free spirits, anarchists, recovering addicts, tattle tales, mama's boys, to the clucking hens. Depending on the situation, we sometimes traded personalities...It also meant that because we were all so different, there was hardly any moment that didn't go by without an arguement breaking out, when ALL of us would put our two cents worth into the issue at hand. Growing up was never boring, and adventure was always just around the corner. Not only was there adventure and mayhem, we also learned to be individuals and began growing up on our own. Now that we've all made it to adult-hood alive (because we were so adventurous, our fun was sometimes dangerous, ask my sister about the two-story tree we dropped her from. Or ask my younger siblings about boating through a flash flood in a kiddie pool!) , we have our own lives, opinions and families. Between the six of us, we have different perspectives on life, God (that's a big one, let the debates begin), on work, family, values, morals, and so much more.
The girls, Me, Becky and Sarah (Sarah is in the Army...in Korea!)
Some family gatherings of the Shaw Clan are like being at the senate; when an issue arises, it becomes a free for all--everyone offering their view as the way it should be done, concrete and set in stone. As you can imagine, it gets loud, yelling ensues, and soon knuckle-charlies are handed out as advice while my Mom lends her voice on the final decision.     Even though we all live different life-styles and have different perspectives, I love being a part of a big family. I know in their hearts they want the best for me and for each other. We spur each other on because we want to see each other succeed (and because it's so much fun). Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds most people of a husband and wife team, yet it has always reminded me of my siblings. The NIV Bible states,
"Two are better than one, because they
have a good return for thier work. If one falls down,
his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up."
The clan to which I was born into, is always there. Sometimes it's not pretty, we don't see eye to eye, but when one of us falls, there are five others to pick him/her back up.
