Don't Ever Grow Up
Time needs to freeze, it needs to stop! My little girl is growing up faster than I had ever imagined. It seems like yesterday I received the news sitting at the women's clinic that I was 17 and pregnant. As scary as it was, I was enchanted with her smiles, her ringlets of auburn brown hair. The way she would snuggle up to me and follow me all around the house. Even when we battled over the cleanliness of her bedroom, she still wanted to hang out with her Mama.
Fast forward to the age of 11. No longer is there a little girl with big brown eyes asking to play with mommy. Before me is a 5 ft 6.5 inch tween, with feet bigger than mine and moving on into the 6th grade. She isn't wearing princess dresses anymore, nor is she wearing stove pot mittens to eat her grilled cheese. She is now texting on her phone, making plans for the weekend with friends, hiding in her room all the time.
I'm scrambling to find and hold onto the moments we get to spend together. While I know she has to grow up, I want to be a part of it, not a parent watching from the distance. So last night, I spent extra time with her painting. She is quite the artist and creates beauitful pictures with color while I use words. For a moment, I was sitting with my little girl again. Before she went to bed, I hugged her and asked to her to never grow up, to which she replied, "But Mom, I have to." So for those of you who are moving into the teens years with me, let's embrace our child and walk beside them during these next few years as they grow up.

Oh, I know how you feel my baby is 10 and I wish we could go back to when she was 2. She may be ready for all the big girl stuff by I'm not.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments and the follows. Yes time slips away so fast, enjoy the moments now while you can. I love watching my kids grow up and yet I wish I could keep the little for just awhile longer.
I have one turning 13 next month and a 10 year old and then a bunch of littles, but time keeps marching along no matter how much I wish it would slow down. You have a lovely blog!!! Following now, feel free to check my blog out.
ReplyDeleteOh, I just want to freeze time. I see tween in my daughter already. By the way, your daughter is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you blog, Heather. Our youngest turned 9 last week. I layed in bed with him, the night of this birth day, and watched him sleep, with tears streaming down my face. Where did my baby go? I want him back. I wish we could stop time, for a day or two and hold our babies again.
